Living Life Passively Is Your Greatest Mistake — How To “Find” Your Soul Mate

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A lot of us live with a romantic view of the world.

We believe our significant others are out there somewhere, and playing out like a classic rom-com movie, you imagine bumping into them one day on the street or meeting them at a bar somewhere and immediately hitting it off. It’s all flowers and sausages from there. The final scene is a happy ending, looking into your soul mate’s eyes lovingly while driving into the sunset.

You’ve played different scenarios over and over in your head, hoping that the day you meet them will come soon so you don’t have to be so lonely anymore.

Our romantic perspective of life is impeding us from taking action. We believe that if we are patient and wait for things to move into place, everything will work out all fine and dandy.

We believe that the world (God, nature, destiny, whatever you like to imagine the “world” as) knows what we want and is pulling the strings behind the scenes. Life tends to have a funny way of working itself out. But it’s not like that all the time.

Living in a passive mindset allows you to relinquish all control. If you believe that someday, someone who was meant to be together with you will appear, and all you had to do was wait around until they appeared, you can let go of the reigns of your life and allow life to take its course.

You believe that life will hand you the “perfect” mate for you. You believe that life will hand you the “perfect career” that was destined for you. You believe that there is something special about you, that reality will twist and bend to make your perception of reality come true.

You are sorely mistaken.

Sure, if you talk to people who met someone who they liked and are confident that they will be with them for the rest of their lives, they will believe in the concept of “meant to be” and “soul mate”. But I would say that a lot of them are lucky.

They were fortunate enough to find someone who complemented them, who they shared great experiences with, who they shared tough times with. This is not to discredit the amount of effort and sacrifice they’ve put into creating great, strong and loving relationships.

But you certainly cannot deny that luck played a factor in bringing these people together. They happened to meet at a certain time, in the right time of their lives. More power to them, as far as I’m concerned.

My point is, for the vast majority of us, we will never be so lucky. But that’s not an excuse to sit back and become resentful, bitter and helpless.
